Guest of honour

We are so relieved that Xiaohui's mother has not only got her visa but the flight to New Zealand is also booked! She is coming in early December and we will be working away still in Wellington so there is the minor fiasco of getting her from Auckaland to Wellington. We have booked the flight but worried about how this woman who speaks no English will be able to navigate her way from the international terminal to the domestic. We thought seriously about flying up there ourselves to meet her but it is diificult to get the time off and don't think it would be that much help anyway.

Our Song

All couples have to have a song right? Ours happened when we went to see a show one night. It was the combination of two Wellington super powers the Roseneath Centennial Ragtime Band and the Richter City Rebels. One of the songs they performed that night was a cover of, yep you guessed it, "Just The Two Of Us". You might say this struck a chord with us, immediately we looked at each other when we recognized the song. For days after we were humming it and ever since it has been the soul anthem we return to. There are a few videos from that concert on YouTube but sadly not our song.

licensed to wed

This morning was your typical dreary, rainy and windy Wellington morning. I got off the train and headed briskly into town. I crossed Featherston in the usualy place, but by the time I got to the Thunderbird Cafe I remembered I had something to pick up at the Internal Affairs office. 8:30 AM, would they be open? I wipped out my phone and looked at the site that was saved in my browser history. No where in the morass of information in that site do tey tell you office hours. Heck by the time I walk back there and check their hours I'd still be trying to find the info on the site.

Invitations

So when you get married you have to make invitations. Apparently. So that's fine, but what do you put on them. At dinner Xiao Hui and I decided on this text:

Xiao Hui and John are getting married!

December 21st, 2014.

117 Finlay Park Rd, Cambridge New Zealand.

You coming or not?

The Paperwork

Today I dropped off our dear friend Lincoln at the airport who had been visiting us from Auckland. I got back home about 10am and walked down to the train. I had told work I'd be in late, had some errands to run. This was no ordinary day, today I was submitting form BDM60 "Notice Of Intended Marriage". It seemed strange sitting in a license bureau waiting to file some paper work regarding my love for someone.
